According to research by FreightWaves, the social and economic challenges we all face in 2020 are expected to contribute to a positive outlook for the trucking industry in 2021.

The online shopping trend accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic could become “the new normal,” said an industry executive. In a recent webinar hosted by the Transportation Research Board, Adam Colon (COO of Lowell-based airline J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc.) explained how consumer behaviors have changed during the pandemic.

The coronavirus has encouraged online shopping and increased demand for shipping, Colón said, noting that a premium has been given to convenience, as consumers find products that can be shipped quickly to their homes. “The new normal definitely stayed with us and this is it.”
