LACK OF TRUCKERS IN THE UNITED STATES IS A BIG ISSUE

October 31, 2022 3:51 pm

The supply chain in the United States is having a current crisis due to the lack of truck drivers.
This was a problem that existed since before the pandemic. In fact, according to an article in
The New York Times, there is a shortfall of 80,000 truckers.

The situation has motivated the industry to raise wages: Bob Costello, member of the American
Trucking Association, explained to Forbes the following: The industry is raising wages five
times the historical average, but this is not just a wage issue. We have an aging workforce, a
workforce that is overwhelmingly male, and finding ways to address those issues is key to
reducing shortages.

He assured that working as a truck driver is one of the few jobs in the North American country
that does not require a university education and offers a middle-class quality of life. What has
made companies look at foreign workers, taking advantage of the existence of the H-2B visa.
